POM Plate for Keychron V5

Made from polyoxymethylene (POM), these replacement plates are used to modify the sound and feel of your keyboard.

1-5 - 1.6mm thick

Has underside notches to ensure switch latch engagement

Please note that due to the manufacturing process, POM does not have a protective film applied. Because of this POM almost always contains surface imperfections such as light scratches. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to prevent this; however, the integrity of the plate is not affected at all.

Oops - fixed mistake, sounds great!

Correction to my previous review where I cited plate warping and keycap interference: as a novice, I installed the standoffs wrong! Anyone buying a non-metal plate should know that the top-to-bottom mounting for this plate in a Keychron V5 is: 1) top, black, small screw, 2) POM plate, 3) standoff oriented to receive the screw threads, 4) keyboard PCB, 5) bottom nut to secure the standoff’s bottom to the PCB. By doing that, the plate mounts to the PCB correctly with the foam in between. Keycaps have no interference and plate stays (mostly) straight when finally mounted in the case. It’s fixed and it sounds/feels great! Would def. recommend. Taking of one star only b/c I completely mounted it wrong before finding guidance elsewhere on the Keychron website. Worth your money when mounted right!

Bends a lot, standoffs interfere.

I bought a black version of this plate after buying my first moddable mechanical keyboard in the Keychron V5. Was excited to make changes to really deepen the sound and improve the feel of the board. I also bought the Poron foam kit and PE foam pad to do all the changes at once.

I didn’t realize that the POM plate needed to be attached to the case using standoffs w/ a nut at the top. The nut sits above the plate in such a way that the OSA keycaps on a stock Keychron board will prob hit the nut at the location of the keys. It def. changes the sound and feel there for those few keys that are nearby.

Also, the combo of foams (plus a tape mod to the back of the PCB) meant that the plate-PCB assembly would need heavy tightening w/ the stock Keychron screws. The POM plate doesn’t have recessed spots for the countersunk screw heads, so it gets pretty tight.

The tightening meant that the POM plate warped a little at the screw points, making the surface uneven (compared to the rigid stock steel plate). It impacted typing feel a little and I worried about switches staying seated.

I undid everything and reinstalled the steel plate. I kept the Poron and PE foam and the keyboard def. still sounds better even with just those mods. The POM plate sounded great too - but I worry about the stand-off interference and the deflection/unevenness when reassembled.

Maybe I did something wrong. I’ll keep the plate and maybe try it again if I learn more. I like this hobby and am grateful for the easy ordering and quick shipping when I got it. I’ll give thee stars total. Might be worth trying if you know what you’re getting into, and the sound WAS pretty nice.
