POM Plate for the Keychron Q5 Pro/Q5 MAX

Made from acetal copolymer, also known as polyoxymethylene (POM)

POM plates replace the stock plate the board ships with and is used to alter the sound and feel of your board. POM plates provide a more flexible typing experience while lowering the pitch of the switch presses.

Specs

1.5 - 1.6mm thick

Has underside notches to ensure switch latch engagement

Important POM Information

Due to the manufacturing process, POM does not have a protective film applied. Because of this POM almost always contains surface imperfections such as light scratches. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to prevent this; however, the integrity of the plate is not affected at all.

Some Manufacturers also include batch numbers in POM sheets on one side. When we create our plates, we ensure that all batch lettering will be facing down on the finished product.

Quality good. Solution approach with supplied screws, nuts and spacers not so good.

Installation was a bit tricky due to the very small threaded spacers and the associated screws and nuts, but after a short time it was no problem. I can't say anything negative about the quality of the plate and the foam parts I ordered. However, the solution with the spacers to be mounted separately is a bad choice in my opinion compared to the welded-in threads of the original plate. Expecially in the lower area of the space bar and between the tabulator and Caps-Lock keycaps. Due to the height added by the nut for fastening the threaded spacers and possibly even higher threads of the supplied screws, the keycaps “hit” the aforementioned nuts or the protruding threads of the screws, which naturally has a considerable negative effect on the sound of the keycaps and switches used. In addition, it can happen that the keycap gets “stuck” with its lower edge on the protruding thread when pressed and does not return to its original upward position.

I will probably switch back to the original Keychron Q5 Pro ANSI plate as soon as it is available again.
